It Is Beneficial To Attend To Your Health

YOUR HEALTH MATTERS

Your Health Is A Reflection Of You

THE BODY

We can easily forget to take care of our bodily needs by focusing on the everyday tasks that awaits us. Sometimes, it is also the idea of being super spiritual. One’s everyday tasks should never be so overwhelming that biological health is compromised. Think about it, we would live longer lives if we allow ourselves to be taken care of by the resources at our disposal. On the other hand, sometimes Christ believers are so super spiritual that if the doctor’s report mentions possibility of cholesterol rise, diabetes, high blood pressure or any other illnesses, there is an instant denial by pleading the blood of Jesus. Don’t get me wrong, we should always and I mean always pray for our health and against illnesses but denial should never be the reason. Denial is rooted in fear of the truth. The truth is, yes there may be presence of diabetes or high blood pressure but this information should be taken to God in prayer by faith. Praying and pleading the blood of Jesus and not making changes that are beneficial to your health is deception. God gave us doctors to address our biological and psychological needs, to ensure our physical and psychological wellbeing is taken care of so we can live long and healthy lives. Failure to use wisdom and seek medical and psychiatric help or to be knowledgeable about what is happening in your body is not the right approach to health and wellness. While we believe God for EVERYTHING, He has given us the ability to exercise wisdom and utilize professional help in our lives. Nevertheless, we don’t put our trust in medicine, we put our trust in God. Remember, your biological health is equally as important as your spiritual health.

THE SPIRIT

Our spiritual wellbeing is crucial, it is mandatory. Think of the spirit as the gas that drives our car, without it we will not be able to drive or function and become stranded on the side of the road. Within my personal life, I have come to the realization when I am spiritually drained, I do not function effectively. In fact, instead of being excited and upbeat, I become discouraged and down. When my physical health at 100% and my spiritual health is at 50% I still experience lack of functioning. There are times when I have to remind myself that if a person takes a pill for medical purposes, they should also do the same spiritually. Reading the Word, worship, praise, prayer – sometimes means talking to God as if He’s right there, are all medicines for the spirit. Sometimes “it does take all of that” for your spirit to receive nourishment for 100% functioning capacity. Your physical body could be as fit as a dedicated gymnast, athlete or body builder but your spirit could be as weak as the person who does not take care of themself physically. Hence, your spiritual needs are equally as important as your bodily needs but they work best together.

Get Up, Get Moving!

Therapy

Therapy does not always mean sitting across from a professional sharing personal wounds and trauma or unloading experiences to seek proper guidance in addressing them, but therapy is anything that addresses an individual’s need. Therapy is not limiting God or not believing God, it is using wisdom and seeking help in a time of need. Therapy is taking on healthy tasks and habits that will shift you to be better. Therapy is a personal choice.

Personally, I enjoy being next to the water where it’s quiet and all I hear is the gushing sounds of water slapping against the rocks, watching birds of all kinds gather together and sing while diving for a snack. This represents turning my back on the hustle and bustle of everyday life and staring ahead at a body of water colored in blue from the great blue skies where it is still. Stillness for me, is key.

For you, therapy may be something different. There are people who enjoy making art, throwing paint on paper and creating a master piece. Other people may enjoy watching a movie, making music, dancing, singing, designing, running, hiking etc., It pays zero dollars to put the cellphone down, stop scrolling social media which can simply pull you into a world of chaos, confusion and deception and rob you of your time. This does not mean social media is bad or a source of negativity or distraction, absolutely not! However, plan accordingly. A little social media here, some tv, rest, study, travel and other enjoyable activities that are therapeutic.

There was a time where I would avoid the world and spend all day in the house but the moment I stepped outside and inhaled the breath of life, I felt much better. Granted, I love alone time but too much alone time opens the door for depression and social anxiety. Be around people, take a walk, go to dinner, see family and friends and enjoy life!

God desires for us to enjoy our lives. It is imperative to include Him in everything you set out to do. The spirit of God lives on the inside of you, He is always with you. Speak to Him always and enjoy the life He has given you doing the things you love. God is already taking care of you so you should do the same for yourself and others. Just remember, too much of one thing will take the time and space needed for other activities to emerge in your life. Make room so God can do more for you.
